In February 2002, then US Secretary of State for Defence told a Defence Department briefing: “There are known knowns. There are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. In other words, there are things that we now know we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we do not know we do not know”. His sentiments will resonate with individuals and business owners as they attempt to plan for their post-pandemic futures, mid-2020, or possibly beyond.
Known Unknowns
In May 2020, Simon Sinek, described as “a visionary thinker with a rare intellect,” in an interview said: “One of the things an infinite mindset provides is a calm confidence. Those of us who embrace an infinite mindset can actually come out of hard times better off than when we entered. What an infinite mindset provides, is it helps you see what we’re going through now not as the end, but rather just part of the journey, it’s hard, it’s difficult, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel, we’re in darkness, but we know this comes to an end, we also know that life will not be the same afterwards, this is like WWII. It’s like life the way before WWII is not what life was like after WWII. The way that life was before this pandemic will not be what its going to be when we talked about going back to normal. There is no going back to normal! As a friend of mine calls it the other day, which I quite like, we’re going back to abnormal! It will be different!”.
